    Necessary information

    Provide a brief summary of the suggestion
    In Game Time

    What service does this suggestion relate to?
    RP Server

    Suggestion Details

    Describe your suggestion in as much detail as possible.
    I was wondering what the in game time duration was going to be? On the "other" RP forums. they were talking a 1:1 ratio. 1 hour in game = 1 hour real life.

    Personally that would be hard for our oversea friends as they would be RPing always at night. I would suggest doing 1 hour in game = 2 hours in real life.

    Why do you feel this would be beneficial to the community if added?
    This 1:2 ratio will essentially make the days in the RP server half as long and gives opportunities for everyone to have a share of different times of day.

    Way too much confusion in my opinion.

    In what regards? 2 hours in game = 1 hour IRL? If so, how so?

    At a rate of 3:1, it would make one of our days the equivalent of 3 days in-game. 8 hours of our time would be 24 hours of in-game time. This way, it would allow everyone to experience playing during the day, during sunset, during sunrise, during the night, etc. on an alternating basis.

    To demonstrate more clearly, think of it like this. (ST is Server Time)
    00:00 GMT -> 00:00 ST (Night) -- Night (USA) = Night In-Game
    01:00 GMT -> 03:00 ST (Night)
    02:00 GMT -> 06:00 ST (Sunrise)
    03:00 GMT -> 09:00 ST (Day)
    04:00 GMT -> 12:00 ST (Noon/Day)
    05:00 GMT -> 15:00 ST (Afternoon)
    06:00 GMT -> 18:00 ST (Evening)
    07:00 GMT -> 21:00 ST (Night)
    08:00 GMT -> 00:00 ST (Night)
    09:00 GMT -> 03:00 ST (Night)
    10:00 GMT -> 06:00 ST (Sunrise)
    11:00 GMT -> 09:00 ST (Day)
    12:00 GMT -> 12:00 ST (Noon/Day)
    13:00 GMT -> 15:00 ST (Afternoon)
    14:00 GMT -> 18:00 ST (Evening)
    15:00 GMT -> 21:00 ST (Night)
    16:00 GMT -> 00:00 ST (Night)
    17:00 GMT -> 03:00 ST (Night)
    18:00 GMT -> 06:00 ST (Sunrise)
    19:00 GMT -> 09:00 ST (Day) -- Afternoon (USA) / Night (UK) = daytime in-game
    20:00 GMT -> 12:00 ST (Noon/Day)
    21:00 GMT -> 15:00 ST (Afternoon)
    22:00 GMT -> 18:00 ST (Evening)
    23:00 GMT -> 21:00 ST (Night)

    Using this cycle, everyone would have a chance to experience roleplay at all different types of day/night. Using a 12 hour cycle, this is much more difficult. Using this cycle, it allows people in different timezones and on different schedules (including third-shift people) to experience roleplay during the day and during the night in-game, which can help their roleplay experience.

    Using this system, I expect some businesses will focus on opening around our "peak" time which we haven't determined yet.

    While the idea of 3:1 ratio has the aforementioned advantage that it would allow everyone to see all times of day eventually, it also has the substantial disadvantage of making planning events... complex. Say you have planned an in-character triathlon for "Thursday @ 10am GMT". You have no guarantees what that would translate to in-game, unless we have some date-translator formula somewhere. So 10am could very well be midnight in-game, and who starts a triathlon at midnight? :p

    Time in any RP setting is a complex and, frankly, fluid concept. Simply because RPing in any virtual world cannot (or at least should not) be the only thing a person ever does. So there must always be room for tweaking with things like saying "sure its dark at night here in the virtual world, but I'm RPing it is sunrise" so long as it is agreed by people RPing with you. Not to mention the time-skips that would explain why you had a kid and next month he's 7 years old, and the month after that he's 18 :D

    The other idea is to sync the time and weather to Los Angeles

    I would go for that option, personally. But of course it isn't up to me lol. Maybe a community poll?

    Perhaps we could do a community poll when we have more members in the community. I feel as if a poll of 20 people is essentially the same as not doing a poll at all.

    Yes, that seems fair enough. Could also try more than one configuration on the actual server when you have it, say for a week, and see how that goes before deciding.
